Hyderabad Cricket Body Faces Police Case After Near-Stampede At Stadium

Hyderabad Cricket Association faces police case after near-stampede at stadium.

Hyderabad: Former India captain Mohammed Azaharuddin and the Hyderabad Cricket Association have been accused of criminal negligence after this morning’s stampede at the Gymkhana grounds, sources have said.

Four people were injured in the stampede as frenzied fans jostled for tickets to the third T20I match between India and Australia.

The India and Australia match will take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on September 25.

A large queue of fans had gathered waiting to buy tickets. But the situation spun out of control and a stampede broke out. The police used batons to disperse the crowd and restore control.

Police said they faced a tough time in managing the situation.

About 15,000 people had gathered at the Gymkhana Grounds.

Some cricket fans alleged that tickets were sold in black.

Telangana Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud yesterday had said that tough action would be taken against those selling tickets at inflated prices.

Hyderabad was hosting an international match after over two years.
