Meditation and yoga is also popular in treatment centres and sessions can really help you take control of your mind and body. Yoga has long been a source of relaxation and there are dozens of stretches that are suitable for both beginners and more advanced practitioners.

Other more relaxing hobbies that can aid recovery can be as simple as writing a journal, allowing you to clear your mind and feel more in control of your life.

If you’re a person who likes your brain to be working, then stimulating your brain through a number of different hobbies can be hugely useful. Reading is among the most common of these, and joining a book club can be a great way to do both this and enter new social circles, away from your old life.

Studying and writing are also very common among people who have just left rehab, while art therapy is becoming increasingly popular too, all helping stimulate the brain and stay on track.
